Most of NAIFA’s advocacy resources may be found at www.naifa.org/advocacy. On the advocacy site, you can learn about the legislative and regulatory issues of interest to NAIFA, access issue papers that you can share with NAIFA members and elected officials. You can also contribute to IFAPAC, sign up as an APIC key contact, join the Congressional Council, and access several tools to keep both you and your state association's members informed. These include:
- Advocacy Brief: A concise summary of NAIFA’s current legislative and regulatory issues.
- Advocacy Victories: A list of NAIFA’s major government relations victories in recent years.
- Advocacy Adds Up: A summary of NAIFA’s Advocacy results by the numbers.
Learning the Issues:
Legislative and regulatory issues of interest to NAIFA and its members generally fall into
the following categories:
- Tax reform
- Health care reform
- Insurance regulatory reform
- Financial services reform
- Securities regulation
- Regulation of insurance products/services/producers
A cornerstone of NAIFA’s advocacy program is the GovTalk system. From this site, you may access:
GovTalk: An electronic newsletter of federal and state legislative matters that impact the business of NAIFA members.
GovTalk Update: Reports on breaking legislative and regulatory matters that potentially affect your bottom line.
GovAlert: Lets you know that urgent NAIFA member action is needed on legislative or regulatory issues that affect you.
NAIFABlog.com: Provides timely analysis, context and commentary on important issues shaping the industry. The blog also is a place to present the role of the agent and the services they provide, and it covers newsworthy happenings within the association. The blog's comments section is a place for you to present your ideas and respond to our posts. The blog frequently is read by reporters who write stories about how legislative and regulatory issues are impacting the agent community.
A major component of advocacy is political giving. This is done through IFAPAC, NAIFA’s political action committee. Everything you need to know about IFAPAC can be found here:

Getting Involved! APIC/Grassroots/Grasstops:
Just as important as political giving is political involvement. This entails establishing relationships with your Members of Congress and meeting with them regularly to discuss important NAIFA issues. This is done through NAIFA’s Advisors Political Involvement Committee (APIC). Information about APIC can be found here: www.naifa.org/advocacy/apic.

Contacting your legislators - NAIFA’s Legislative Action Center:
NAIFA allows you to get into contact with your state and federal legislators, to follow legislation, and to contact your media outlets. You can do all of that at NAIFA’s Legislative Action Center, found here: capwiz.com/naifa/home.
From the Legislative Action Center you can:
- Take action on active GovAlerts
- Look up information on your elected officials
- Send information to local media in your area about NAIFA’s legislative issues
- How to Use the Legislative Action Center flyer
Congressional Conference - Since 2013 thousands of NAIFA members from every corner of the country come to Washington, DC annually to meet with lawmakers and advise them on how their decisions affect agents, brokers, and their clients.
The goal of this Conference is to establish and cultivate relationships with lawmakers, to share the expertise of NAIFA members, and educate them on the value of life insurance, annuities, retirement savings, and employee benefits for 75 million american Families. The goal for each state is to send two NAIFA members per Congressional District. To learn more, visit www.naifa.org/caphill
Congressional Council - The Congressional Council is NAIFA's newest advocacy program, designed to maximize donations to both NAIFA's War Chest and IFAPAC. Contributions to IFAPAC allow NAIFA to support candidates for elected office who value the role of insurance agents and financial advisors and who believe public policy should help, not hinder, access to products and services that allow Americans to secure their financial futures. War Chest funds are used to fund high priority - often emergency - legislative and regulatory initiatives that exceed NAIFA's budget.
